The collection of ‘Oozing my Religion’ at the MOBA showcases works that reference religious texts and mythology, in strange ways. Artists have been making religious art since the advent of the two institutions. With the rise of the Catholic church, Western artists also focussed their attention on creating works to suit the changing demands of society. The spread of Catholicism saw a rise in the production and sale of art referencing Jesus and Mother Mary.
The MOBA collection houses some fine examples of art that would perhaps be rejected even by the devout. The paintings that can be seen here are compositionally unbalanced, anatomically disproportionate and simply unsightly – which is precisely what makes them so unique!
So, if you’re tired of seeing masterpiece after masterpiece from the Byzantine period, simply step into the Museum of Bad Art for some laughs, giggles and an altogether different experience.
