The only museum in the world dedicated to bad art, and proud of it, we are given a unique experience with the artworks in this collection.
There are too many museums in the world dedicated to (good) art some might say. Thus, we speculate – MOBA was perhaps born out of a need to create and maintain a balance in the universe. When future generations look back at this era, they should not only know about the best art humanity produced, they should be able to fairly compare it to our worst.
The Rainbow Collection, as the name suggests, houses works with a slightly out-of-sync colour palette. Good art emphasises a proper understanding and use of colour, gradation, light and dark. In this gallery, all those rules go out the window. Here is a world where opposites are true.
Think about what one can learn from these works of art. Where colour and hue are allowed to be jarring. Does it asault out senses? Make us cringe? Perhaps even look away. MOBA says – embrace those reactions. For isn’t all art of value?
