Some fun facts about the Museum :

  • The Tate galleries are headed by a Board of Trustees. This is in line with protocols laid down by the Museums & Galleries Act 1992.
  • The Board appoints a directors to overlook the routine function of the galleries. The Director in turn is assisted by an Executive Group and then other employees and staff.
  • The primary objective of the Tate is of course the promotion of arts & culture for public view, consumption and enjoyment. They are also responsible for the conservation and safekeeping of the works in their collection. They also promote art scholarship.
  •  The organisation has 3 charities. Namely, Tate Foundation, Tate Americas Foundation & Tate Canada Foundation. The main goal of these is to financially support the galleries and fund exhibitions, acquisitions and other important projects.

A Final Thought : Tate Galleries

The Tate is also funded by the Department of Digital, Culture, Media & Sport. Due to this, it is accountable to the Parliament, and by extension, the general public. The financial statements of the organisation are therefore in the public domain, and accessible for viewing on their website. However, it is important to note here that the organisation also undertakes its own private fundraising activities, which account for 70% of their funds.
