Blurring the lines of the real and the imagined through intricate melding of images that need no words to tell a visual story that often brings a smile to our faces, whereas at other times has us wrinkling our brows to dig deeper into the message, What I describe are the photographic pastiche’s created by the surreal imagination of Murat Süyür. With simple titles, photographing the everyday and making it into a more complex narrative are what Süyür likes to play with and present in his images. He is never telling a single tale – it is a multi-layered commentary on what we find in our “everyday”. His making of the image is delicate, yet the voices we hear when we look at them are bold and strong.
When one looks at an advertising campaign – they seldom realise the powerful potential that is encapsulated in those few moments. An artwork in a gallery worked on for hours and laboured – one can understand – but in the span of a few seconds – an image that is evocative has the capacity to pin onto the mind an idea that is enviable – unreplaceable. That is the craft that Süyür deals in and has perfected.
Why Murat Süyür?
Murat Süyür was born in Istanbul 1984, lives and works in Istanbul – Turkey. He works with digital design but his ideas spring spontaneously from his mind and take shape. His approach to photography is a classic one in early 2005, he says the computer is just a tool that he uses to carry out corrections.
“İt was like 4 years ago.. a friend of mine show me a magazine about photography. After that i got interested in concepts and still life photo’s the first 2 year I was just an amateur. Then slowly it became professional and now it’s the first thing in my life.” Says the reticent artist
Süyür has an distinctive pictorial idiom, based on his humour, his mischievousness and a practically unlimited power of the imagination. Murat’s pictorial composition nonetheless remains simple and clear. It is a deliberate attempt to stay are purely close to the concept as possible. The multiple levels of interpretation in Süyür’s work points to surrealist art as the creative source of his inspiration. It is remarkable that he photographs and uses the digital to a minimum. When one studies his work and his portfolio closely does one fully appreciate the extent of his talent.
His clients include Renault, Mercedes, Ford, Fiat and BMW to name a few.
