“I’ve always been fascinated by the capacity of Persian calligraphy”. – Shadi Rezaei

Shadi Razaei’s passion for the visual arts comprises of an exploration of the relationships between tradition and contemporary art. Her works bring a series of mutable and spontaneous gestures that negotiate the relationship between stability and uncertainty.

Rezaei’s practice involves the deep exploration of her own eidetic memory. She interrogates a wide range of themes. These include power, gender as well as animalism versus humanity and oddity versus beauty and identity. These are all depicted in her work, within the framework of her chosen medium. Shadi’s unique excavation of the past and the subsequent exploration, is carried out through various creative media. Employing the use of unconventional materials enables her to create and question metaphoric expressions of the untold. Further, as a twist to her presentation of her material, the narratives that Shadi wishes to communicate, also determine the medium she chooses to work in.
