Marilyn is that you?
Everyone in the art world knows and loved Andy Warhol’s rendition of star actress and sex symbol Marilyn Monroe. Not too many people may have seen Roger Hanson’s less than impressive version!
A manly lady with a strong jawline, disproportionate nose and angry face is set against an inexplicably blue background. With golden blonde, and red lips the figure is reminiscent (in the subtlest way) of the late Hollywood superstar. Random blotches of black, green and orange dream surround the giant head. The composition of the work is disturbing to say the very least. A perfect fit again for the MOBA, the work was donated by the artist himself. It’s good to be self aware.
Roger Hanson’s Couldabeen Marilyn Today is housed in the Museum of Bad Art. It is part of the museum’s collection of Rainbow Art.
