India Art Fair is a unique platform focussing on Indian and South Asian artists and galleries. Over the years, the Fair has established itself as a space for both art trade and cultural dialogue and discussion.
India Art Summit
Held annually in New Delhi, India Art Fair is India’s largest art fair and the largest fair of Indian Art in the world. It was established in 2008, as India Art Summit. The debut edition of the fair had about 34 galleries exhibiting their works to collectors. The fair was popular from the its very first year, owing to the diversity of art on display, as well as the lack of any competing fair in the Indian art market.
By the second year itself, India Art Fair witnesses an expansion in the number of participants as well as visitors. Thousands of people from all over the country flocked to New Delhi, so be in touch with the latest happenings on the Indian art scene. With each passing year, the popularity of the fair grew, and India Art Fair gained a reputation as a platform for South Asian artists to display their works, and for international collectors to scout Eastern art and talent.
India Art Fair Today
2012 saw the fair move to its current venue at NSIC Grounds in Okhla New Delhi. This edition was attended by representative groups of several internationally renowned art museums, including Tate Modern, the Guggenheim and the Singapore Art Museum.
Over the course of its journey thus far, India Art Fair has seen an exponential increase in visitor traffic as well as gallery collaborations. Apart from the gallery booths, the show also features several ‘project’ booths dedicated to solo artists, sponsored by various art institutions. From performance to digital art, the fair brings in something new every year. 2019 was he first year that an artist (The Big Fat Minimalist) was invited to creatively contribute to the fair’s tent.
In 2017, Jagdip Jagpal was appointed the new Director of India Art Fair.
